For years, there have been rumors swirling around the Marvel Cinematic Universe that Sam Wilson, aka Falcon, would one day become the new Captain America, taking the mantle after previous Captain Steve Rogers. With a long history of heroism and patriotism, it is no surprise that Falcon could be the one to pick up the shield, and after the events of Avengers: Endgame, fans are wondering if Falcon's moment might finally be upon us.
Will Falcon Become Captain America in the Marvel Movies?
Although nothing has been confirmed, there are really strong indicators that Falcon will become the next Captain America. It makes sense when you look at the current landscape of the Marvel Cinematic Universe – Falcon has been around since Captain America: The Winter Soldier and he's now the only Avenger active besides Tony Stark. It could also be an attempt to diversify the MCU, as Falcon would be the first black Captain America in the mainstream Marvel universe.
Falcon Is The Next Captain America (Not Bucky): All The Evidence
Falcon's journey to becoming the new Captain America began way back in 2018 when the Russo Brothers (directors of Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War) gave an interview to the Huffington Post. During their interview, Joe and Anthony Russo admitted that the entire story arc for Falcon and the Winter Soldier rested on Bucky deciding whether to become the new Captain America, or to stay loyal to his best friend, Steve.
From the beginning, the Russo brothers have been open about the potential of Falcon taking over the Captain America mantle. In the same interview, they talked about Falcon as the perfect person to assuming the mantle of Captain America, citing his patriotism and willingness to help others.
First Look at Falcon in Captain America: Civil War
If we look back to the casting announcement for Captain America: Civil War, it was the first time Falcon was shown shoulder to shoulder with the previous Captain America. At the time, some fans saw this as a nod to the potential of Falcon taking over for Steve Rogers in the future, with Civil War and more importantly Infinity War and Endgame being the perfect proving grounds for the character.
Here’s What Falcon Looks Like as Captain America in the MCU
Fans already got a glimpse of Falcon as Captain America in avengers: Endgame, but one artist even gave us more of an idea of what Falcon will look like with the shield in hand. The concept art, created by Aiko Aiham, is of Falcon taking the mantle of Captain America and it looks really good!
The piece shows Falcon donning the classic Captain America costume complete with an American flag draped across his back. The artist also gave fans an idea of what Falcon’s shield may look like when he takes up the mantle – it appears to blend elements of the classic shield with classic design elements to create something wholly new for the character.
